Check Out The Hidden Meaning Behind Miley Cyrus New Viral Single “Flowers”
Flowers breaks BTS "Butter"7 day record on Spotify
I can buy myself flowers/Write my name in the sand/Talk to myself for hours/Say things you don’t understand/I can take myself dancing/And I can hold my own hand/Yeah, I can love me better than you can
By now almost every one on social media is humming Miley Cyrus new single, the empowering anthem “Flowers.” The song is just a teaser of her new album Endless Summer Vacation –releasing on March 10.
While Mileys catchy tune is being featured on almost every reel in Facebook and Instagram, there is actually a big reason (call it secret if you wish) behind the self-empowering lyrics. Fans believe the song is directed at ex-husband Liam Hemsworth and references to their life together. There are several hints hidden in the single.

Behind The Meaning/We were good, we were gold/Kinda dream that can’t be sold
We were right ’til we weren’t/Built a home and watched it burn
This is in reference to the couple’s Malibu home that burned down in the 2018 Woolsey fire. The period spent in her home was reflected with a happier mood in the 2017 “Malibu.”
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were among hundreds of Southern California residents who lost their homes in the Woolsey fire. The couple even donated $500,000 to the Malibu Foundation through Cyrus’ Happy Hippie foundation. The money was used to help those in financial need, relief assistance, wildfire prevention and rebuilding efforts. Hemsworth even posted a photo of the rubble after the house burnt down.

The Chorus of “Flowers,” the most catchy part being shared on reels is reminiscent of Bruno Mars 2013 “When I Was Your Man.” Hemsworth had dedicated the song to Cyrus and frequently mentioned it in their relationship. The lyrics went:
That I should’ve bought you flowers / And held your hand / Shoulda gave you all my hours / When I had the chance / Take you to every party / ‘Cause all you wanted to do was dance.”
Miley gives her reply in Flowers: now get the drift?
I can buy myself flowers/Write my name in the sand/Talk to myself for hours/Say things you don’t understand/I can take myself dancing/And I can hold my own hand/Yeah, I can love me better than you can
Cyrus asserts her own independence following her divorce by replying to the same lyrics with a personal edge, what she says is I can do all this stuff on my own.
To make it even more personal and cement the song as a perfect self-empowerment anthem in reply to a relationship Miley even released “Flowers’ on Hemsworth’s birthday (Jan. 13). Hemsworth is yet to comment. You got to hand it to Miley Cyrus, she isn’t afraid of stirring up emotions, and going by social media, the song is already viral and has broken the seven-day record for a single song on Spotify, surpassing a mark previously set by BTS’ “Butter.’ On Instagram it has been used on over 2 million reels and counting. Way to Go Miley!!!
