We liked Back to the Future, Time After Time, and Interstellar so much that we wondered if time travel was real. In fact, many have claimed to have travelled back in time, met famous people, and even travelled to the future, only to reveal terrifying facts about the human race. Check out the 10 most mysterious accounts of time travelers, which include ladies who claimed to have met Marie Antoinette and a man who claimed to have travelled to 2020 while living in 2019.
1. Rudolph Fentz
Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the story of Rudolph Fentz remained a mystery, revealing the remote potential of time travel. Fentz appeared out of nowhere in 1951 in New York City’s Times Square, dressed in period attire and with huge sideburns reminiscent of a few decades previously. He was hit by a car while looking about in surprise and fright, and he died as a result of his injuries.
When officials searched him, they discovered nineteenth-century money in his pockets as well as visiting cards identifying him as Rudolph Fentz. They couldn’t find any records of him until they learned about the widow of a Rudolph Fentz Jr. The woman stated her father-in-law of the same name went missing in 1876 and was never discovered.
What was noteworthy was that the father-in-law matched the visitor’s description, which perplexed authorities. Rudolph Fentz vanished in 1850 and reappeared in 1950. If he did, he somehow wound up in a time hole where he remained for 74 years, which is unfortunate.
2. Eleanor Jourdain and Charlotte Anne Moberly
Spiritual writers Charlotte Anne Moberly and Eleanor Jourdain first met at Oxford’s all-female St. Hugh’s College. Together, they wrote a fantastic book which described a bizarre encounter they had while visiting the Palace of Versailles in 1901. While exploring the gardens, the environment abruptly shifted, and they began to observe people dressed in 18th-century attire. They also encountered a woman who resembled the French monarch Marie Antoinette.
Was it a vivid dream, or had they slid through a time portal? The authors offered research and historical data to back up their arguments in their book. Many thought they had made up a fantastic story, while others believed them. True or false, Charlotte and Eleanor were both adamant about their odd event.
3. Noah, the Time Traveler
One of the most recent stories concerning time travelers is about Noah, who stated in 2019 that he is from the year 2030. Noah seemed to be a teen, yet he claimed to be 50 years old. The man came on live television, claiming to be a time traveller who couldn’t reveal his identity for fear of being slain. The putative time traveller made some bizarre revelations. Noah predicted that Donald Trump would win a second term in office and that the US president in 2030 would be Ilana Remikee.
He revealed that humans would travel to Mars in 2028 and that time travel would become commonplace by 2030. He also stated that Google Robots would eventually run the globe, which seemed a little far-fetched until he astonished everyone by appearing on a television channel and passing a lie detector test. What exactly did this mean? Was he being truthful? Noah stated that he was on a mission to show people what the earth has in store for them and that he risked his life to do so. Was Noah a victim of over-watching “The Terminator” and other time-travel movies? What do you think?
4. Father Pellegrino Ernetti
If there is one great narrative about time travel, it belongs to a Benedictine monk named Father Pellegrino Ernetti. While not a typical time travel narrative for actually travelling across time, what the monk claimed to have done was even more incredible than time travel itself. In 1950, Father Ernetti was credited with developing “The Chronovisor,” a contraption that allowed users to look into the past.
The device’s discovery became an urban legend because Father Ernetti said he could see historical events such as Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. While such claims will elicit scepticism from any scientific viewpoint, the fact that the technology is now covertly contained in the vaults of the Vatican, which has no plans to divulge it to the outside world, is startling. Now, as pious as the Vatican is, they take an incredibly scientific approach to such matters, so the fact that they have maintained this equipment provides a fresh perspective to Father Ernetti’s machine, so we will leave you to judge whether it could be true or not.
5. Robert Goddard
RAF commander Robert Victor Goddard was a modern-day folk hero. Goddard claimed to have seen an abandoned RAF station in Drem, Scotland, alter before his eyes in 1935 while flying over it. Goddard noticed the unused airstrip when passing it, but on his way back, he was trapped in a storm and nearly lost control.
When the storm passed, Goddard saw that the airfield was thriving, complete with planes flying about. There were also some aircraft models he had never seen before. The storm reappeared a few seconds later, and Goddard found himself navigating the frantic weather once more. Fortunately, he returned and wrote about his strange experience in a book. As strange as it may sound, the Drem airfield was reopened in 1939 in preparation for World War II. Goddard may have envisioned the 1939 version of the airfield in 1935. Isn’t that incredible?
6. Titor John
If ever there was a complete time travel conundrum, this is it. When General Electric invented time travel in 2034, John Titor made headlines in 1998 when he claimed to be from another timeline. He made the astounding assertion in 2001 that he was scheduled to fly back to 1975 to grab an antique computer that he would need to troubleshoot computers in 2036.
Titor’s spectacular findings didn’t quite align with the ground realities, such as the second American Civil War in 2013. While many dismissed his claim to be a time traveler, his claims and astonishing facts went viral. They created a significant stir among conspiracy theorists, eventually becoming cyber folklore. He has always been the most intriguing time traveler in recent memory. Titor’s abilities as a time traveler will always be a mystery.
7. Tokyo Time Traveler
Among all the stories of time travelers, none is more dramatic than the one of a man who arrived at Haneda Tokyo Airport in 1954 with a passport that officials couldn’t figure out. His passport revealed that he was from a country named Taured, which no one had ever heard of. It was supposed to exist between France and Spain, but there was none. When asked to locate Taured on a map, he pointed to what is now Andorra, claiming he had never heard of a place called Andorra and explained that Taured had existed for 1000 years. He said that he had been in Japan on business for the previous five years, and surprisingly, the visa stamps on his passport confirmed his tale.
Even crazier, he possessed a driver’s license and a chequebook from a bank with the same name as the mystery country. Officials were perplexed but guarded the man’s door while taking him to a neighboring hotel. When they returned in the morning, they discovered he had simply vanished and was never found again.
8. Andrew Carlssin
Andrew Carlssin was maybe one of the most intriguing figures in time travel. Carlssin was such a mystery that many people thought he didn’t exist. He was arrested on Wall Street for unlawful trading after making a killing of $4350 million from an $800 investment in two weeks by earning from 126 high-risk trades that escalated each time he purchased them.
During his arrest, he claimed to be a time traveller from 2256 who had arrived in the United States with a time machine. He also claimed to know where Osama Bin Laden was, a cure for Aids, and the exact date of the Iran invasion, all in exchange for his freedom. He hesitated to reveal the location of his equipment for fear of it being misused. Before 2002, no record of Carlssin could be found, and he was quickly released on bond. He vanished soon after, never to be seen again. Although the tale made news, the big question remained, “Who was Andrew Carlssin?”
9. Time Traveling Hipster
In a more recent event, the hipster time traveler became an urban legend and went viral. A snapshot from the 1940s showed a man in the throng sporting a T-shirt, sunglasses and a matching jumper. He appeared entirely out of place in the context. The photograph, dubbed the “Hipster Time Traveler,” quickly spread over the internet and became a viral hit.
The photo was discovered to be genuine in 2010, and many cynics could not dismiss it as a forgery. The photograph was of a crowd watching the reopening of the South Fork Bridge in Gold Bridge, British Columbia, Canada, in 1941. Whether it was a hoax or not, it remains a great mystery.
10. Unusual Air Raid Premonition
This is a time travel story that will blow your socks off. Writer J. Bernard Hutton and photographer Joachim Brandt were reporting for a German newspaper on the Hamburg Shipyard in 1932. When they were photographing the shipyard, bombs rained down on them from all sides. The journalist was scared when he discovered he was caught in an air raid, and they quickly fled, but not before taking a bunch of images.
No one believed them after they developed the images to prove they weren’t insane. Furthermore, the photographs did not even depict an air raid. After eleven years, Hutton was living in London when he opened a newspaper to see the headlines, which nearly caused him to fall off his chair. An article about Operation Gomorrah, an air raid on Hamburg, was strewn across the main page. That could be a coincidence, but the photographs were exactly like what he saw on that dreadful day in 1932.
Wasn’t it exciting and thrilling? After all, we tend to treat stories about time travelers as science fiction. But I’m sure it captivated and bewildered you. Such occurrences give us much to think about, especially when they include persons like Journalist J. Bernard Hutton or Rudolph Fentz.
